About ESRI Shapefile (SHP)
The long-standing GIS interchange workhorse. A "file" is really a bundle: .shp geometry, .dbf attributes, .shx index and .prj coordinate system — keep them together (or zip them).
Worth knowing: One geometry type per layer; attribute names truncated to 10 characters; 2 GB size ceiling.
About GPS Exchange Format (GPX)
The universal GPS format for waypoints, tracks and routes. Always WGS84.
Worth knowing: Only points and lines (no polygons); fixed schema — arbitrary attributes go to extensions.
How the conversion works
- Drop your SHP files (all parts of the bundle, or a zip) above.
- We read it locally with GDAL compiled to WebAssembly — nothing is uploaded.
- Optionally pick an output coordinate system; official datum grids are applied automatically.
- Download your GPX result, with a transformation report showing exactly what was done.
